CMHA's Ride Don't Hide

What an incredible day!  Building a strong sense of community, compassion and understanding more than 500 riders and striders took part in this year's fundraising and awareness event in Kelowna. More than $100,000 was raised by the time the event kicked off with donations continuing to stream in. This year's local event was sponsored by the Payton and Dillion Memorial fund, named after the two beautiful sons of Tom Budd who tragically took their own lives as a result of mental illness.  Mr. Budd spoke of the need to bring mental health issues into the foreground to develop and encourage communication. Anyone can be at risk for thoughts of suicide.  No one should have to hide to stay silent. The event is not just about raising much needed funds, it is about challenging the stigma of mental health issues. "It takes courage to speak out.  If someone demonstrates that courage, it is up to all of us to rally to support the person in need.  There are professional resources available for both the individual at risk and anyone who wants to learn how they can best help," says Angela Price-Stephens who was recently appointed to the Board of CMHA Kelowna.  Angela has a particular interest in assisting youth and suggests the Foundry Kelowna is a wonderful place to access for youth aged 12 - 24. https://foundrybc.ca/kelowna/
