CMC-Peneraju Rail Engineering Apprenticeship Programme: The first batch.

As part of our CSR activity - We support aspiration to ‘Develop New Malaysians Leaders for Tomorrow’. Our focus is on training professionals with demonstrated commitment within our organisation. On the 11th April 2016, CMC Engineering has received 25 young engineers trained under Railway Engineer Professional Course from Yayasan Peneraju. Today, Our Deputy CEO Mr Hazwan Alif Abdul Rahman had attended the Briefing and Engagement Session with the scholars prior to the "on-the-job" training. Welcome on board!

The rapid growth in the construction of the railway infrastructure in our country had seen a severe shortage of railway engineers in the country. In view of that, CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd (CMCE) had collaborated with Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera ("YP")) to initially develop 25 young engineers in signalling and rolling stocks expertise for the nation’s railway industry.  

The program will be jointly conducted with the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) and Centre for Excellence in Rail Training from Australia (CERT) through My-CERT. Graduates who were able to complete the program and passed the assessment will directly contribute to higher quality deliverance to the nation’s railway industry. The training programme will consists of classroom theory sessions and practical on-site sessions, with an overall duration of 6 months.

Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera ("YP") is a foundation under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Roadmap that spearheads the development of education for Bumiputera.  YP was launched under the Economic Planning Unit (“EPU”), Prime Minister's Department, and is focused on strengthening capacity building and sustainable Bumiputera universally.

YPPB was entrusted to several mandates by EPU which was inclusive of improving the quality, quantity and effectiveness of Bumiputera talents. This initiative was in line with the Government's efforts in upgrading Malaysia towards a high-income country through academic education, professional and vocational certification. IRSE is an international engineering institution based in UK, focused on signalling, telecommunication and railway safety. CERT is an Australian Recognised Training Organization (RTO), which conducts certification courses for the railway industry

“The program is to develop 100 engineers as professionals in the Malaysia’s railway industry. Young engineers trained in this field will be an important catalyst to further develop the railway industry in Malaysia”. YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said this during the launching of the training programme at the CMCE Integrated Testing and Technology Centre (iTTC) in Subang Bestari, Selangor.

The country had seen the on-going extension of the Kelana Jaya and Ampang line, the development of the MRTKV Sungai Buloh to Kajang line, restoration of the KTMB Eastern Line and many other related projects. Soon, among others, the country will see the development of the MRT2 network from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya and the development of the LRT3 from One Utama in Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang. The development of many railway projects had created a constraint on the human resources.

YBhg. Mr. Hazwan Alif Abdul Rahman, Deputy chief executive officer of CMCE further added that “CMCE is participating in this program with Yayasan Peneraju to support the government initiative on the development of the human resources in the railway industry. CMCE as a major player in the railway industry appreciates the government effort to increase the human capital in through this programme.”

CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd is a high performing Bumiputera TERAS company as accredited by Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (“TERAJU”) under the Prime Minister’s department. The government had previously announced that until 2020, the country will be spending some RM160 billion in rail-related projects. Since 1990, the government had invested over RM50 billion while encouraging the people to increase usage of the public transport system.

congrats to CMC for their inappreciative for the apprenticeship programme but still a long way to go but the first step is the hardest, however best of luck this will be an achievement for all of us railwayman of Malaysia
