Clutter-Free Christmas: In Your Organization

Here we are, looking back on our 2019 year and a decade of all we have accomplished.  What happens during this reflection is a whole lot of CLUTTER.  Cluttering up our minds "I wish I did this", or "Why didn't I get that done", or "Why am I not ____ yet", or "What was my purpose this year?".  So much contemplation of why things are not where you want them to be, why processes are not improved yet, why you don't have the perfect team yet, why you are not in a certain position yet, why, why, why.  This is all CLUTTER in your mind. 

Reflections should not be so critical.  Yes there are lessons learned, but you have accomplished so much I can guarantee!  As you are trying to build a culture within your organization or department, focusing on all of the things you didn't accomplish is not healthy.  This will create negativity within the team and affect morale that you may not be able to turn around.   Staying positive and focusing on accomplishments year-over-year and throughout the past decade within your organization and team will boost the team and help them feel like they have purpose.  It will help summarize where you were and where you got to, in that timeframe.  It will show the team that the needle was moved in the right direction, no matter how far it was moved. 

As leaders, we have to keep focus on moving forward, aligning folks with the mission/vision/core values and building the foundation of our organization and department.  That is our job!  If we just focus on the CLUTTER, we show we are not a good leader and we cannot move the organization forward because we are too busy focusing on the past and failures.  Get your mind out of the gutter and the clutter!  Celebrate the movement, celebrate the achievements, celebrate the wins.  Then outline what the next year will look like and the next decade - because if you don't have anything to work on, your team will be bored...what is the sense in that?  Have fun with prosperity of things to accomplish in the upcoming future.  Have a great holiday season, but more importantly, a blessed New Years.
