Defined as foot abnormalities usually presenting at birth in which your baby's foot is twisted out of shape or position. The tendons of the feet are "shorter" than they should be. Both feet usually occur in 50% of births and if kids have clubfeet, it makes it difficult for the infants to mobilise, so clinicians generally recommend treatment starting with non-surgical interventions as soon after birth as possible.
Non-surgical treatment is made up of stretching or casting via Ponseti's method which is made up of 1-2week plaster casting into the correct position. In severe cases an orthopaedic surgeon will need to extend the length of the tendon to allow the foot to return to a natural anatomical position. It's imperative to begin treatment as soon as possible to allow for the best long term results in the most cases.
