I saw the quote below on LinkedIn last week and couldn’t help but connect with it. Early in my career, a GM I worked for used to say “the club is an extension of our Member’s living rooms”. That stuck with me. Fast forward many many years and this made way more sense during my time at Shell Point as our residents literally lived within the work place – or better yet we literally worked in their homes. I was only with Shell Point for 18 months but one of the things that stuck with me most, was just that – serving and caring for our residents?in their homes. It really gave me a different perspective.

Fast forward again to Countryside and the picture below. I came into the club one morning early. I was the only one around with the exception of Noni, reading the newsletter. I didn’t disturb her. I just took this picture. There she was, shoes off feet kicked up on the table and relaxed in one of our lobby chairs reading the newsletter. If that doesn’t look like something you’d do in your home I don’t know what does. It made me smile and brought me full circle to what that GM said to me very early in my career – “the club is an extension of our Member’s living room” and knowing how special it is to actually work in a member’s living room during my time at Shell Point – seeing Noni this relaxed truly confirms why Countryside is a special place..

So….We’re not just spending $14m on the club – we’re spending $14m on an extension of our Member’s homes. We’re not just renovating the facilities – we’re renovating an extension of our Member’s homes. We’re not just doing all of this planning to enhance the club experience – we’re doing all of this planning to enhance our Member’s homes…
Here’s my challenge to you all this fall…When our Members start to return to Countryside – let’s start an initiative to say “Welcome Home”. Let’s literally welcome them home. When they show up to play golf, when show up for lunch or dinner or for a special event or the Wellness Center or the Office – It’s “Welcome Home”…???
