CLT in the refurbishment projects

The CLT material can be successfully used even in the refurbishment projects where the lack of space and bearing capacity of existing structure is already highly utilized.

In one of currently finished Sweco’s project we designed the bearing structure of new elevator shaft with CLT panels due to the lack of space where the steel bearing structure was simply too big.

In “ordinary” new production project would not be even considered to optimised bearing structure of elevator shaft to its maximum. In refurbishment projects and moreover in cultural buildings located in centre of Stockholm, where every half square meter matters it is important to put attention to every single detail.

During the design of the CLT shaft in our project we took into consideration not only the required loads but the assemble process, which will be carried on very limited areas.

The new foundation for the elevator is designed on the rock together with conduit for new installations.
