Cloud Security Professional Certifications
Mary-Jane Phillips
Cyber Security, Governance, Risk and Compliance @ Queensland Treasury | CISSP | CCSP | CCSK | MBA | Systematically improving cyber security assurance and resilience
I want to learn more about cloud security governance and risk management so I looked into the CCSP certification from ISC2 and CCSK from the Cloud Security Alliance to structure my learning and give me a good overview of the issues.
Certifications give me a clear goal and a deadline that I can break down into manageable tasks. As a relative newcomer to the industry, external verification that I have learnt something of value also gives me a confidence boost.
Booking your certification exam is a bit like signing up for a half marathon. Getting the medal or t-shirt at the end of the race is not the objective, becoming a fitter person is the objective.
I have recently provisionally passed the CCSP (October 2019) and I also plan to do the CCSK.
Study resources
I utilized the official ISC2 material for most of my study.
- CCSP Common Body of Knowledge (2016)
- CCSP Study guide (2017)
- CCSP Official Practice Tests (2018)
I also got a lot of value from the following free resources
- Cloud Security Alliance and Peter van Eijk's sample CCSK course material.
- Mike Chapple's LinkedIn Learning CCSP videos. (2019) The first 3 videos were available when I was studying.
- Cybrary's CCSP videos (2019)
In the longer term, I want to understand more about cyber security risk management of different cloud providers. I like having an overview of the issues first. That is how my brain works. You may be different and may learn best by doing and looking at the detail.
Please comment to help others out if you have information on different cloud provider security certifications or the CCSK and CCSP.
Good luck if you decide to learn more about this area.
Thank you!
