Cloud myths and SaaS truth

Why am I talking about Cloud myths?
I think that we all agree that the Cloud is at the center of a new paradigm. It fuels the innovation and disruption required to compete. But which Cloud?
I often hear of companies that choose a a lift-and-shift model, making a (partial or) complete move to the public cloud. While I fully respect this choice, I also think that this can only bring marginal benefits. Of course, it may be a fast path for enterprises to move to the Cloud and to reap the benefits of lower TCO and some operational agility. But what about innovation? Where’s the difference with the deployment of a traditional ERP system? When will business users experience any benefits, since they will keep on feeling locked into the same ERP cage? How much time will take the next customization?
But yet, many companies follow this route.
Why do they do it? As usual, there are many reasons, including an innate, legitimate resistance to change. Secondly, perhaps SaaS vendors including Oracle should better explain the beauty and superior value of SaaS. In many case partners and advisors do not help. They have no wish for any change in the status quo. Keeping control on highly customized ERP black-boxes may certainly appear a lucrative opportunity, but will it be the same on the medium and longer term?
So, what’s the SaaS truth in my view?
With SaaS and only with SaaS companies can start their digital transformation journey.
Adoption is fast and easy (because Oracle SaaS applications are next-generation solution); enterprises get the latest and greatest features (because you don’t need to upgrade and potentially invest in underlying technology and other IT resources in order to take advantage of new features); they achieve superior business flexibility (because it’s easier to get new users up and running, turn on modules or components that weren’t part of the original deployment; and, yes, they will also cut their application costs. But that's not the key point!

6 å¹´Hi Andrea, Totally agree on adoption and implementation benefits. Additionally for our customers the mobile flexibility to update and access information in real time 24/7, as a user or key decision maker is also a key driver. The ability to host and support the system totally remotely is why our physical asset management software is now offered only in this form and getting good growth out of it. Admittedly more private sector than public..

6 å¹´Great points Andrea.? Most businesses are aware now of the value of becoming fully digital.? While there are options other than Cloud to achieve this, only Cloud enables businesses to keep up to date on the latest digital advantages.
