Cloud flows - Save Draft & Publish

Cloud flows - Save Draft & Publish

Official Microsoft documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/drafts-versioning#save-drafts

If you open the editing of a cloud flow that you created from a solution (solution-aware cloud flows), you have the following buttons available:

  • Save draft
  • Publish

?How to create a cloud flow in a solution.

The buttons are available in the new designer!

.

Save draft

Save a draft of a flow whenever you want, even with errors. Make changes to your flow with confidence at your own pace.

Publish a flow

When you're ready for changes to a flow to have an effect at runtime, the flow can be published.

?

The state of the flow (Draft or Published) shows beside the flow title to indicate if that version of the flow was published, or if the flow has draft changes.

Do you know why you can't always turn off the 'New Designer' option? It's hit and miss. Also, what happens if you edit a flow created prior to the new designer feature launch and now use the 'Publish' to save changes? I had issues deploying 2 flows to another environment due to the new designer. I entered a ticket to MSFT and apparently there is an open bug for this. The only workaround they suggested was to recreate the flows in the source solution, then re-deploy. It wasn't fun ??

What is the difference between a draft and just… not turning on the flow? You can test it in either state. Well, one big difference is you can save a flow as Draft even with errors, where to normally Save (to get it in a state where you can Test) it validates before allowing the save. Drafts cannot be Tested.
