Fabric in Production

As exciting as it's been over the last 3 weeks since the official announcement of Fabric, we still need to remember it's in public preview and not supported by Microsoft yet in any production workloads. We don't have a GA (Generally Available) date yet, this could be many months away. We can still start projects, understand greenfield/migration paths of course, but I want to draw attention to features I believe are important for production workloads. Read more here.

Synapse and Fabric Monthly Updates from Microsoft

This is definitely worth mentioning. There have been a few changes at Microsoft about how they'll provide official updates for both Azure Synapse Analytics and Fabric Synapse going forward. All Azure Synapse Analytics updates will be posted over on the Tech Community blog feature by feature, we will not get a monthly update. Over on the Fabric blog, we'll get a monthly update.

Don't worry about missing any Azure Synapse updates as I'll be keeping a close eye and collating updates as the are posted.

• All about Delta: As Fabric table storage in both lakehouses and warehouses is in the Delta format, I've been reading through the Delta documentation. Read more here.

• Marthe Moengen has posted a blog on Dataflows Gen2 in Fabric...what are they? If you don't know then I highly recommend reading this blog. Read more here.
• Geetha Sivasailam has posted a blog about using Fabric shortcuts to access Dynamics 365/Dataverse data via Synapse Link. Very useful while we wait for the official Fabric version. Read more here.
