Google joins Open Compute Project
Facebook-led Open Compute Project (OCP) is getting traction. Google joined OCP in March 2016, and submitted a specification that includes 48V power distribution along with a new form factor to allow OCP racks to fit its datacenters.
Google is known to build custom infrastructure based on commodity hardware. Its contribution to OCP will benefit the community in deriving the best practices from decades of experience in running web-scale workloads.
Salesforce and AWS buddy up
Salesforce has decided to utilize Amazon’s global presence for its datacenter expansion. The company will start using AWS for its core products including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and App Cloud, for parts of its international services.
Satya Nadella tried convincing Marc Benioff to use Azure for delivering its SaaS offerings. But given the existing relationship and synergies, Marc went with AWS.
