Cloud Computing Trends for 2018

Cloud Computing Trends for 2018

In the era of technological advancement, the cloud has become the new normal and it's continually evolving. Companies those have adopted cloud are not looking at it as a tool only but they are focusing on to find other ways to use it to achieve their business milestones. Companies have done significant changes to the business operations with the help of cloud computing.

Companies started their cloud journey from personal cloud storage to organizational storage system. In some ways, Big Data has also helped in cloud evolution, as it provides strategic decision-making capabilities to the businesses to store and use the immense amount of data.

Despite all the benefits, companies are still hesitant to move their entire data to the cloud mainly because of the security concerns. Keeping aside these safety aspirations, reports are suggesting that cloud computing adoption has seen significant growth in some time.

The global cloud market is expected to reach $547 billion by the end of 2018, as per the prediction by Deloitte.

IDC research has predicted that during 2018, half of the company spending will be cloud-based and by the end of 2020, it will increase from 60% to 70%.

Let’s have a look at cloud computing trends that businesses will look out in 2018.

Multi-Cloud Deployment

With Multi-Cloud deployment, companies will be able to deploy workloads on different clouds and manage using different strategies. It is likely to become more dominant in 2018.

As a futurescape report by International Data Corporation, 85% of the IT companies will invest in and adopt multi-cloud architecture by 2018.

Sticking to a single cloud services provider doesn’t make any sense if you have the multi-cloud architecture option. Multi-Cloud strategy not only reduces the cost of cloud infrastructure but it also provides the option to choose best service and functionality from the different cloud.

The only challenge companies are facing with multi-cloud adoption is that they don’t know how to architect for resiliency. It’s just because it requires a great deal of expertise in migrating the process.

Serverless Architectures

The serverless architecture allows the developer to develop and run any number of application services without managing any server or infrastructure and it is likely to be the MVP of 2018. With no money and resource spent on the infrastructure, developers can work on increasing the efficiency by connecting to the different cloud services and it simplifies the release of new updates which will be less complex and easy.

People are forecasting for 2018 and beyond that Serverless security will become a thing other than analytics functionality. It will become more mainstream by then to perform functions like virus scanning etc.

Cloud-based Containers System

Cloud containers as a service will be the hot topic in 2018. It provides a better aspect of infrastructure security. Containers can be used as the alternative of virtual machines and it allows developers to deploy apps in very consistent, reliable and straightforward way. It also provides a faster release of new features and allows software to run in more reliable manner.

With the help of container, developer can break the application into much smaller code segments called containers which are platform-independent means can run on any hardware platform. Kubernetes is a tool which facilitates the ease of use of containers and helps companies in knowing the practical aspect of containerization.

Cloud Monitoring as a Service

Cloud Monitoring as a Service trend is the result of growing use of the hybrid cloud services. Companies are moving towards CMaaS so they can monitor the activity and performance across the multiple suppliers which will be interdependent to an organization’s IT service delivery.

The essential part of this is that services should be independent of the providers themselves. CMaaS is used to monitor the internal environment and host private cloud services by deploying and installing gateways into the monitored environment.

Cloud Cost Containment

Cost containment is an essential thing for every business. By the use of this, they cut down the cost of unnecessary things to remain in the financial target. The growth of any company accelerates as they adopt more cloud-based strategies to cut the costs. The adoption of cloud computing is a long-term cost-cutting plan which reduces the expenditure spent on infrastructure and increases ROI by lowering the cost while extending the productivity and accessibility. There are several cost management tools available in the market such as Cloudyn, Cloudability, and Cloud Cruiser that provides cost consumption and cost analysis reports.

Cloud Security

The year 2017 witnessed the most number of cyber-attacks and ransomware infections in the history. Experts have predicted that similar kind of cyber-attacks may affect the cloud services globally. Attacks like WannaCry ransomware, CIA Vault 7 hack, and the Equifax data breach are the prime example of some of the cyber-attacks that IT world may face again in the near future.

As attackers have become more sophisticated with time, Security analyst working in public, private, and government sectors are also required to become sophisticated. Organizations have to take some safety measure by investing in tools like security information, event management, and malware detection systems for cybersecurity. Different companies are embracing a new operating model that will help to succeed in the cloud security. Automation, speed, and integration with the cloud security is the only way to succeed in this battle.

Rise of the Internet of Things (IoT)

This is the era of connectivity. As IoT devices rely heavily on the cloud to work, given connected devices working together. In this time, people use tablets or mobiles to access the internet, purchase goods, search for businesses, and much more. This is where the IoT came into play, able to accomplish more tasks with your mobile devices. This will create a need for cloud-based storage which will store this kind of files and data created by mobile devices.

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Having automated decision-making capabilities is the most important thing for any businesses. With the strive taken towards the AI and ML will only bring good fortune to the businesses. In the past, we used to think cloud as a remote-site to store and process data but the emergence of AI and ML has made cloud from storage platform to a computational brain.

AI and ML generate enough amounts of data which can be helpful in stopping any freakish activity and apply automated security measures. With the advanced predictive algorithms, security analytics engines can detect any threat at the beginning.

So, the business of any size- big or small will benefit with the upcoming cloud computing trends. It will help them to develop, deploy, and integrate services on the cloud which is more efficient and have improved security.
