To the Cloud and Back Again
Recently I was able to attend the Elastic{ON} conference and enjoyed the discussion from Lyfts’s software engineer Michael Goldsby. The topic was focused around hosting a core enterprise application within the public cloud, only to realize that it has scaled to the maximum supported size and needs to return to a locally hosted architecture a short time later. Having a hybrid cloud environment takes advantage of both types of architecture, utilizing the benefits of both the private and public features to come up with a solution that meets the specific needs of the organization. Decision factors can be based on a variety of reasons which include cost, resources, features, technology integration requirements, and of course the security of the data that will be processed by such systems. By utilizing the hybrid cloud architecture, organizations can retain control of an internally managed private cloud while relying on the public cloud as needed for scaling or other public facing services.
