Closing Skills Gaps in Emerging Industries with AI and ChatGPT: Top 10 New Technical Roles

The job market is rapidly evolving with the rise of new technologies, leading to a growing demand for workers with specific skills. This shift has resulted in a significant skills gap in emerging industries, where there is a shortage of workers with the necessary skills to fill these new roles.

However, as I mentioned in my recent interview with Monika Kos on the Nine News Perth The Pulse program, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT offer a solution to this problem by providing new ways of developing the skills needed to succeed in emerging industries.

Here are some of the developments from my new report 'Disruptive Decarbonisation'?on how these emerging technologies can help close the technological skills gaps.

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a state-of-the-art language model that generates human-like text based on the input it receives. This technology has the potential to revolutionise the delivery of training and education, providing learners with interactive, personalised, and engaging learning experiences. ChatGPT can be utilised to simulate real-world scenarios, allowing individuals to practice new skills in a safe and controlled environment.

AI, on the other hand, is playing a crucial role in closing the skills gap by providing data-driven insights and predictions. Machine learning algorithms can be utilised to analyse massive amounts of data, uncovering patterns and insights that would be difficult for humans to detect. This data-driven approach can be used to help individuals develop the necessary skills to succeed in new, data-driven roles. AI can also be utilised to create predictive models that can help individuals understand the skills they will need to succeed in the future.

Here are the top ten new roles I predict that AI and ChatGPT can help close the skills gap around:

  1. Data Analyst: AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills required for analysing large amounts of data, identifying patterns, and making predictions, filling the skills gap in the field of data analysis. More broadly however, as we transition from an emphasis on digital literacy, to data literacy, this can be applied to a broader selection of organisational roles.
  2. Chatbot Developer: With the increasing popularity of conversational AI, particularly in consumer contact centre environments, there is a growing demand for chatbot developers who can create conversational interfaces that provide information, answer questions, and automate tasks. AI and ChatGPT can assist in developing these skills.
  3. Machine Learning Engineer: AI is transforming many industries, particularly knowledge based ones, leading to a growing demand for machine learning engineers who can develop and deploy AI models. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to build and deploy machine learning models.
  4. Natural Language Processing Engineer: AI is changing the way we interact with devices such as computers, smartphones etc, and there is a growing demand for natural language processing engineers who can develop and deploy AI models that understand and respond to human language. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop these skills.
  5. Virtual Assistant Developer: Virtual assistants are becoming increasingly popular in our homes that are becoming smarter or our devices such as smartphones, and there is a growing demand for developers who can create virtual assistants that provide valuable services to users. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to create virtual assistants that understand and respond to human language, automate tasks, and provide information.
  6. AI-Powered Content Creator: AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to create new forms of content, such as text, images, videos, and audio, closing the skills gap in the field of content creation in industries such as advertising, marketing and sales.
  7. AI-Powered Design Engineer: AI is transforming the field of product design, leading to a growing demand for design engineers who can use AI to create innovative products. As Digital Twin and Metaverse platforms continue their rapid development, AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to design products using AI.
  8. AI-Powered Medical Diagnostician: AI is revolutionising the medical field, leading to a growing demand for medical professionals who can use AI to diagnose and treat patients. We've already seen so much about this with IBM's Watson AI and its effectiveness in healthcare. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to use AI in medicine.
  9. AI-Powered Financial Analyst: AI is transforming the field of financial services (Banking, Insurance, Wealth Management), and there is a growing demand for financial professionals who can use AI to analyse data and assess risk. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to use AI in financial services, making them more valuable in the job market.
  10. AI-Powered Supply Chain Manager: AI is transforming the way we manage supply chains, and there is a growing demand for supply chain professionals who can use AI to optimise their operations. With the advent of block chain technology that will revolutionise logistics, risk and finance throughout supply chains, AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to use AI in supply chain management, making them more valuable in the job market.

AI-Powered Financial Analyst: AI is transforming finance, and there is a growing demand for financial professionals who can use AI to analyse data and make predictions. AI and ChatGPT can help individuals develop the skills needed to use AI in finance, making them more valuable in the job market. By providing new and innovative ways to analyse financial data, AI can help financial analysts make more informed decisions and stay ahead of the curve in an increasingly competitive market.

For example, AI can be used to automate the process of analysing large amounts of financial data, reducing the time and effort required to perform this task. This allows financial analysts to focus on more high-value tasks, such as interpreting the data and making recommendations. AI can also be used to identify trends and patterns in financial data that would be difficult or impossible for humans to detect, providing financial analysts with a deeper understanding of the market and the factors that drive it.

In addition, ChatGPT can be used to provide personalised training and support to financial analysts, helping them to develop the skills they need to use AI effectively. For example, ChatGPT can be used to provide interactive learning experiences that simulate real-world scenarios, allowing financial analysts to practice using AI in a safe and controlled environment.

In summary, Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT are powerful tools that have the potential to resolve the skills gap in emerging industries. By providing new ways of learning and developing skills, these technologies have the potential to revolutionise the job market, helping individuals to acquire the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
