A closer look at how earbuds affect our bodies
Hey friend!
Are you someone who can’t leave the house without your earbuds? Over the last few years, I’ve definitely become one. The sidewalks in my neighborhood are filled with people plugged in—we’re Zooming as we walk the dog, listening to podcasts while browsing at Whole Foods, and streaming Spotify as we run for the subway. So what is all that listening doing to us?! This week, we’ve decided to find out…
Rick Neitzel is an “exposure” scientist who measures how noise (among other things) affects our health. He and his team at the 密西根大学 have partnered with 苹果 for a first-of-its-kind study into our listening habits and how those habits are impacting us. Over 180,000 people are participating… and the study is ongoing, so, Apple-device owners, you can sign up, too!
But first, listen to our earbud exploration (haha, yes, I know…this episode is very meta). This episode is packed with practical tips to help you listen more safely now and give you a look into the future of “hearables,” as the industry refers to itself…

Check out (and share) our guide to better listening and, of course, join me next Tuesday for another 5 minute walking episode! I’ll be talking to a doctor/mom with a unique perspective on how we care for ourselves—while also trying to succeed professionally.

As always, thank you for being here.
