A Closer Look at Android's Recent Bug

We’ve noticed a pretty large bug that affected the Android Impressions & Downloads for branded keywords for most of our clients.

This bug started on May 24th. Google was made aware of this issue and it was resolved by June 9th.

In the graphs below, you can see the effect on Impressions & Downloads after searching a branded keyword:

This “dip” that occurred in the graphs above impacted the search downloads data by over 80%, so our clients might have noticed an overall decrease in downloads during May-June.

At first, we thought this may be related to a new Google Play feature update (which we will talk about in a separate blog post), but we soon realized there is no correlation, since the data has returned to normal.

There was also an assumption from within the ASO community that it’s potentially related to the fact that brand traffic might be redirected to third-party data. We checked out this issue and also found no correlation.

?We will continue monitoring all of these new changes to see how it will impact ASO and how we can continue to get the best results for our clients.
