Inconsistent, trial-and-error approaches generally lead to failure. This particularly applies to marketing. The late Peter Drucker, the greatest management thinker ever saw?marketing as a core responsibility of management. He added, because the purpose of business is to create a customer, the business enterprise has two--and only two--basic functions: marketing and innovation.

Step 8. Managing the Complexities of Growth

Complexity is about employees, not revenue. Laurie Tayler, co-author of the research that documented the 7 stages of entrepreneurial growth says, “Money and processes are easy to manage compared to the dynamic impact that people bring to the table.” Although the “People” challenge shows up as the number one focus at different stages along the way, at one point delegation skills become critical while later the focus shifts to employee engagement and creating buy-in to the vision.

There are a total of 27 challenges that companies face along the growth path, different issues at different stages. Each stage of Growth has five overriding challenges, It is essential that you understand the different challenges at each of the seven stages so you can prioritize and focus your attention on the right things at the right time.
