Close up: ABM Week and the South American refractory and steel industry
Interview with Patrick Wilhelm, Vice President Inorganic Specialties, Nouryon
“Inspiring meetings with important stakeholders from the refractory and steel industry made our attendance at ABM Week a valuable experience. The discussions and insights we encountered will be useful in shaping our strategic direction for South America in the coming years," said Patrick Wilhelm.
What benefits did the Levasil? colloidal silica business gain from participating in ABM Week?
As a premier event in this region ABM Week attracts major players in the refractory and steel industries, providing an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders. This interaction allows us to discuss ongoing and future projects that align with our growth strategy. For Levasil? colloidal silica, these are key industries in South America, due to their high relevance for the economy and their significant scale in the region.
What were the primary objectives of your participation in the event in South America?
We were looking to establish new contacts and cooperations to drive growth in South America by highlighting our patent pending solutions for the refractories and steel industries. Of course, we were also connecting with existing stakeholders to discuss ongoing and future activities to drive progress in our strategy execution.
Can you provide more details about the patent-pending solutions that were promoted during the event?
We highlighted our new development Levasil? FX401, a surface-modified colloidal silica binder, which enables magnesia refractory materials with lower carbon footprint and unique performance properties. In addition, we focused on the solutions for improved efficiency and lower environmental impact in the sintering process.
What insights did you gain about the current state and future of the South American refractory and steel industries?
Generally, topics were trending around key drivers for innovation such as resource efficiency and lowering the environmental footprint. The region faces strong cost pressure due to low-cost imports hence all innovation that can help the industry to optimize its cost position is important.
