Pinballing from hydrogen pump to pump across California into Nevada.

May Day, May Day!

I did not have to stop for fuel as often as I did but I wanted to claim to visit the 1st 30 pumps before anyone else! A later adventure would show that I can drive from Coalinga in Central Valley through Los Angeles to San Diego on 1 fill.

May 1st was the 1st day of what would be a 5 day, 1673 mile adventure. The adventure would extend an additional 2 days and total 2134 miles! My kayaking buddy, Roger and I would average 60.9 MPGe over the initial adventure that included 2/3 of California and the Lake Tahoe part of Nevada as well. We drove 1673 miles on 27.465 gallons of gasoline equivalent (GGE) of compressed hydrogen gas (CHG). The average car averaging 25 MPG would have used 67 gallons making CHG 2.44 times more efficient in a spacious Honda Clarity sedan. All the while, we put out water vapor as the only tailpipe emissions!

  • Day 1 was primarily pinballing our way through LA hitting 7 stations although we needed only 1. The goal was to get receipts and pictures at as many stations as possible.
