Police in Mandera East averted a possible tragedy on June 5th when they recovered and demolished an IED planted in an abandoned house. Corporal Ibrahim Isaac noticed a suspicious metallic container buried next to a wall of the abandoned house. The improvised explosive device was safely detonated in Mandera town on June 6th. A multi-agency team visited the scene, cordoned off the area, and deployed robots to remove and detonate the device. Metal shrapnel fragments and a destroyed cell phone were recovered.

Shakahola Death Toll Rises to 436 After Seven More Bodies Retrieved - June 04, 2024.
Detectives and forensic experts have recovered seven more bodies as the fifth phase of Shakahola exhumation kicked off on Monday. This brings the death toll to 436. The skeletal remains were exhumed from four graves at Kwa Mugambi area south side of controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie's homestead in Shakahola forest, Kilifi county. Pastor Mackenzie is said to have twisted religious teachings into extremist ideologies, resulting in the deaths of his church members. Some died from serious bodily harm, while others starved due to enforced fasting, which Mackenzie claimed would cure poverty and disease.
