The reasons for clogging are spawned by four primary issues: moisture, oversized particles, foreign debris, and dust.

? Moisture. Moisture can cause abrasive to clump and then clog.

? Oversized particles. The abrasive particle distribution must be such that the largest grain is no larger than 1/3 of the mixing tube ID (internal diameter). So, if you are using a 0.76mm tube, the largest particle must be smaller than 0.25mm or you will very likely get clogging the mixing tube over time as 3 grains try to exit the mixing tube at the same time.

? Debris. Debris in the garnet delivery system is usually caused by carelessly cutting open the bag of garnet or by not using a trash screen atop the garnet storage hopper. Make sure debris isn’t in with your abrasive or you can cause stoppage of cutting by clogging.

How do I clear a clogged water jet focusing tube??

Clear blocked tungsten carbide focusing tubes can be a menace – consider the force applied to the debris when forced into the focusing tube at 55,000 psi!?

1. Remove the waterjet cutting tube and abrasive feed hose from the waterjet cutting head.?

2. Turn the abrasive focus tube upside down and refit the clamping collet and retaining nut.

3. Insert the focusing tube into the water jet cutting head and secure it.?

4. Restart the pump with water only and open the water jet cutting head for 1-2 seconds.?

Your waterjet focusing nozzle should now be clear and ready to cut!
