Clinton and Trump’s top 10 tweets analyzed
The 2016 election will go down in history as one of the most volatile, categorized by its larger than life candidates, polarized constituents, and the prolific sparring between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Twitter. Each candidate’s leading tweets have been retweeted and liked hundreds of thousands of times, so Jumpshot wanted to get down to the real facts and see which tweets were the most popular by unique pageviews.
We found that Clinton’s infamous “Delete your account.” was the resounding winner accounting for 63 percent of the activity, while Trump’s top tweet was a denial of climate change from 2012. Read on for our full data-driven findings.
“Delete your account.” Hillary Clinton by the numbers:
We analyzed the popularity of tweets from each candidate by the amount of visitors that clicked through to view the full discussion for the three months leading up to the first presidential debate. What we found what was equally amusing and dumbfounding, so we worked it all out, 140 characters at a time.
The importance of social media in this election cycle can’t be overlooked, which is evident in Clinton’s increased engagement on Twitter. Based on our data all of Clinton’s top ten tweets were from the 2016 election cycle, and 3 out of 10 of them were in direct response to Trump, including the cynical “Do you want to build a strawman?” and the short but sweet “Hi” in response to Trump’s “You tell me: who is better for the gay community and who is better for women than Donald Trump.”
Her most popular tweet “Delete your account” was in response to Trump’s, “Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama – but nobody else does!”

Notice that one tweet from the first presidential debate made the list. Things move fast on Twitter, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the community doesn’t remember the past. One look at Trump’s top ten list proves that indeed they do.
The political tweet master: Trump’s top ten tweets
Donald Trump has done an exemplary job of drumming up support, disdain and attention using his Twitter account. No matter your political feelings on the candidate, there is no denying that he has mastered the art of publicity, and is using one of – if not the most – public forums to do so.
All of Trump’s top ten tweets received a consistent amount of attention, with his most popular tweet taking 26 percent of the share of views, and his second most popular taking 17 percent. This is in contrast to Clinton’s first and second most popular tweets, which had a 52 point differential in share of popularity.
Another contrast between the two candidates’ Twitter presence is that while Clinton’s top tweets have all taken place during the election, many of Trumps have occurred in the past four years with 4 out of 10 of his most popular tweets centralized around global warming tweeted between 2012 and 2014. Perhaps people are using Twitter to fact check the Republican nominee, perhaps they are exposed to these tweets elsewhere, regardless this is a great reminder that what happens online remains online.
Here are Trump’s top ten tweets:

10 If Russia or any other country or person has Hillary Clinton’s 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI! 4%
Not surprisingly, “Crocked Hillary” tweets brought in a third of the visitors to Trump’s top ten tweets.
Bottom line: Both candidates have driven massive amounts of traffic to their Twitter accounts throughout this election cycle. Tracking user click-throughs to Twitter status pages can indicate the public’s levels of interest (or outrage) with each virtual comment a candidate makes. We’ve got just 6 days till the election, which will bring a whole slew of new tweets. Check back with us after inauguration day to see which candidate won the election, and the fascination of Twitter.
