Climbing the downstairs

Are You Feeling Low in Life?

Do you feel discouraged and fatigued when going through a tough phase of life? What is the hope? Is there any way to come out of this undesired phase? Let's delve deeper.

Understanding the Influence of Destiny

In this mysterious world, we are always under the influence of destiny. Sometimes we experience pleasure and sometimes displeasure. Even after blaming others for misfortune, the fundamental question remains the same: why did I get a particular reaction? How am I responsible for the unwanted results when I am sure that I haven't done anything wrong in this life? These questions are valid and definitely need a concrete solution. But under the influence of illusionary energy (maya), we forget the past quickly (in fact, we want to forget) and always remain hopeful for better situations. But what is the end of this dark and never-ending cycle of ups and downs in life? Is it death or beyond death?

The Supernatural Solution

To explain this complex paradigm, we need to take help from a supernatural or out-of-this-world solution. Ultimately, how can you solve the problem using the resources that have proved to be non-useful? The ultimate savior here is the holy book of life, the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. It explains the fundamental questions of life in an amazing way.

The Eternal Nature of the Soul

We are spirit souls and not the body. We keep on changing bodies as we change clothes daily. All living entities have one thing in common: a soul or spirit. The nature of the soul is eternal, indestructible, full of knowledge, and full of happiness when connected with God.

We have millions and millions of lifetimes (and many more to come in the future). We existed in the past, exist in the present, and will continue to exist in the future. There is no start or end. Like God, the souls are eternal.

The Duality of Happiness and Distress

Happiness and distress are like two sides of a coin. Sometimes we experience happiness and sometimes distress based on our own karma (including karma from past lives). Ironically, we don't know how and when we will get reactions to particular karma. All that is decided and governed by the judicial body of God and His representatives (demigods).

The Role of Free Will

From God comes remembrance, and from Him comes forgetfulness. We are simply puppets in the hands of material nature. But we all have the ultimate weapon for our life: our free will. We all have a choice to do or not to do certain things. In the complex calculation and principle of the law of karma, we need to understand the concept of willing or desiring. The best way is to get help from people who have tasted the nectar of this transcendental knowledge (devotees of the Lord). Positive results are guaranteed.

Identifying and Combating Inner Enemies

It is always better to know the enemy and then devise a strategy to combat it. Our ultimate enemies lie within us: lust, anger, greed, pride, envy, and illusion. These six enemies keep troubling us life after life. We just have to find meaningful ways to deal with them and find the purpose of life, which is actually "to find the purpose of life."

Lessons from the Bhagavad Gita

Once you are convinced by the above nectarian learnings from the Bhagavad Gita, it is now a bit easier to go to the next step. In the low phase of life, what do we need to do? A perfect example is the Pandavas (five brothers) from the Mahabharata. During the 13 dark years of exile, they went through all possible deadly troubles of life. However, they utilized this phase as an opportunity to grow. They always fought with their problems by taking guidance from the chief strategist, Supreme Lord Krishna. They used all their knowledge and expertise to deal with unwanted situations and, at the same time, kept on learning new skills and gathering knowledge of weapons. Since they were Kshatriyas (a clan of fighters), their duty was to uphold dharma for the right cause. They indeed turned around the whole low phase into a new opportunity for the future.

Confidence and Guidance

Similarly, we also need to always have confidence in our inner strength given by God and useful guidance from good teachers/advisors. If we look for solutions, we do get them. Maybe today, tomorrow, or after many years (maybe in the next life), but we do get the solution if we seek it.

Life as a Journey

Life is like sailing a boat. In times of high tide or low tide, always fight and equip yourself to be prepared for the worst situation. Even if you are in a peaceful phase of life, do not forget the practice of learning useful life-saving tips from Vedic scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, etc. You will be amazed to see the treasure of knowledge lying in front of us when we dig deeper and start reading and understanding these books.
