The Types of Books I Read

I have had some of you asking me what I read, so this week will share with you what I read and how I read.

While I love learning, I sometimes lose focus with excessive text. Growing up I used to love reading and I could read many books in one day, but as I grew older, text?became more dry and my attention shifted. I realized that when I was younger I was able to keep attention because I was reading novels, with a fascinating story that I can follow, which is a sharp contrast to say...reading about finance or business.?

I found that I follow along very well when information is shared in audio form, and that is when I came across?Audible. I initially started with audio books on youtube, reading audiobooks of books like The Art of War by Sun Tzu and How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. However, I realized that YouTube has limited audio books, and that's when I came across?Audible. I love it. I listen to my audiobooks whenever I want, while doing just about anything.

What kinds of books do I read? I practically read anything I am interested in. I tend to read books about leadership, strategy and tactics, relationship building, and?startups. Recently, given my new role, I have been reading more and more books about product management to learn varying approaches to product management.

On average, I read 3 books a month. But it's really up to you what you want to do. My favorite books so far that I would absolutely recommend in a heartbeat are: Principles by Ray Dalio, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and Leadership Strategy and Tactics by Jocko Willik. Product Management books I love are: Product Management in Practice by Matt LeMay and Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products. I especially loved reading Hooked.

Whether you are reading physical text or listening to an audiobook, reading is reading and you are learning the more you build a habit around taking such action.

If you have a favorite book, comment the title and author on this newsletter so that others can discover a new book to read.
