Climate farming explained.

Here's what you need to know about climate farming and how regenerative agriculture can protect the future of food.

Food. So fundamental and ultimately vital for our existence on earth. And yet, it comes as no surprise that we humans haven’t been taking care of the soil from which our crops can grow.?

Our current farming uses hard chemicals and plowing to create maximum output of crop during a short period of time. The long term result is water supply shortages leading to desertification and in turn higher carbon emissions causing global warming.?

“Land clearing and conventional farming is responsible for about one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions”, according to the Guardian.

So how do we approach the fact that soils have been depleted of nutrients, food prices are sky-rocketing and business as usual in the agricultural industry has to be turned on its head? We return to our roots, to the age-old practice of regenerative agriculture.

Regenerative agriculture enables the restoration of entire ecosystems by holistically farming the land. The principles are to keep a living root in the ground throughout the year, integrate livestock through holistic grazing, cover the soil and maximize plant diversity. The advantages are undeniably positive for farmers, consumers and our planet. The soil organically stores carbon, crops' resilience to extreme weather is amplified, biodiversity is restored, our fields have better water quality and retention and animal welfare increases from the increased nutrients in crops as well as the right to move more freely.?

Through our initiative Future of Food, we can rehabilitate the earth, secure future food supply and create a more sustainable and resilient agriculture for our farmers. We collaborate with three organizations that help European, Nordic and North American farmers with the transition to regenerative agriculture: European Soil, Nori and Climate Farmers . The goal is that in five years we will have contributed to the transformation of an area as large as 15 000 football pitches, more precisely 10 000 hectares of agricultural land.?
