Climate Disasters and Home Values.
Yesterday I wrote an article about Climate Change/Resiliency. Today I'm sharing an article about Zillow adding Climate Risk onto their home profiles. Folks, this is happening "whether" we want it or not. Home buyers will now see climate risk data provided in Zillow listings on homes for sale on their site.
Where does Zillow get their data? From MLS's that allow sharing the listings. So after they capture the data, they add Climate Risk thanks to their partnership with First Data. Providing this information to home buyers puts them in the drivers seat of their decision making for insurance costs and longevity of that particular home.
This is a smart move. Disclosure provides a buyer with all the tools needed to make educated decisions when it comes to housing purchases.

If you're interested in buying a home, the first "to do" item on your list is to do a home inspection. In Arizona, it's a legal requirement to disclose what you know about a home. If you don't, consider yourself in legal jeopardy. It's my policy to state without question to provide this to home buyers. When I take a listing to sell a home for a homeowner, this documentation is completed at the same time the listing paperwork is signed. They are told, "this is your get out of jail free card."
It won't be long until other companies provide climate risk data, so buyer beware!
