Climate change: Alarm bells ringing loud and clear!

July 3rd, was the world’s hottest day ever recorded in history as per the data released from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Amid heatwaves pervading the globe, average global temperature touched 17.01 degrees Celsius, beating the August 2016 record of 16.92 degrees Celsius.

World over, intense heat domes have been creating havoc in unprecedented fashion, including southern US, UK, China, India, and North Africa. Antarctica which is supposedly in a winter spell has seen abnormal temperature rises and Ukraine's Vernadsky Research Base located in the Wilhelm Archipelago of Antarctica set a new temperature record at 8.7 degrees Celsius.

• Climate scientists warn against taking this ignoble record lightly and believe it is akin to a death knell for humans and their ecosystems as it will ultimately wipe out lives and livelihoods at a mass scale
• Worse, they predict that this is not an isolated development but only the first in a series of new records to be set this year only to remind us of the acute need to stop burning fossil fuels right away
• Global warming caused by incessant CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions and a discernible El Nino pattern emerging are responsible for this havoc, they claim
