Climate Action Under Trump: Potential Setbacks and Opportunities

Climate Action Under Trump: Potential Setbacks and Opportunities

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, suspended federal permitting for wind energy and took aim at EV-friendly policies. We expect the next four years to bring more of the same.?

Yet while federal climate and environmental action will inevitably stall, momentum built over the last four years won’t be easy to stop. Red and blue states alike are seeing the benefits of billions of dollars in clean energy and manufacturing investment. State and city leaders are taking up the climate fight at the local level. And some climate policies are seeing bipartisan support.

We broke down what to expect as the new administration takes shape — and where the biggest opportunities for progress lie. Read more.

‘Direct Pay’ Tax Credits Bring Clean Energy and So Much More to US Communities

Many communities got access to clean energy tax credits for the first time under the Inflation Reduction Act, bringing renewable power to people across the U.S. But that’s hardly the only benefit they’ve seen. The legislation’s “direct pay” provision is helping to create jobs, reduce electricity costs, build resilience to natural disasters and more. Read more.

New Geothermal Technologies Can Help Unlock 100% Clean Energy

Expanding geothermal power in the U.S. has support on both sides of the political aisle. A new generation of technologies could tap into geothermal in states that have never had access before, significantly boosting the country’s supply of clean, reliable energy. WRI experts explain how this technology works — and how to scale it up quickly and safely. Read more.

Like for Africa, Kenya needs to increase the amount of money it spends on climate action. Most African countries are vulnerable to climate-related disasters, such as droughts and floods. We run a CSR program in kisumu, Kenya the strain is vivid.

Climate stabilization requires a focus on a healthy biosphere as key to it. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s42055-024-00100-y This article outlines ten key policy directions for moving forward. These are founded on the recognition that not individual, narrowly conceived efforts promise success, but only a combination of mutually reinforcing measures can help the recovery of a healthy biosphere. Only a healthy biosphere is capable of stabilizing the global climate. All we can do—and everything we must do—is assist the process of regenerating and safeguarding this capacity.

Global climate change, with its various negative impacts that have already occurred to human life, is a threat that will certainly continue. The agreement that has been reached by all countries that are aware of this has been documented to take concrete steps to overcome the problem of climate change. As a leader, anyone can not support or even block it regarding steps to overcome climate change globally. Indeed, this world is a place where large communities are active, but the main and noble goals that underlie the improvement of the community must still be realized, namely steps to overcome climate change must continue, with the possibility of a decrease in priority. Compared to the community being completely silent. https://lnkd.in/geeMx4mA

Thank you for such an important article, and I agree the momentum is already building, and that along with advances in technology, will be hard to stop!!! Particularly interested in thoughts WRI may have on advancements in new technology for Geothermal - particularly time frmaes. Here in New Zealand, the region I live in contains 70 percent of the New Zealand's Geothermal system. With the Ministry of Transport pushing towards an 100% EV Bus fleet (replacing the 2600 bus of which only 40 are electric, with a full electric system) there will be even more benefits if the electricity supply is in part geothermal - exciting times!!! https://www.dhirubhai.net/newsletters/7286553672866508800/
