Climate Action Education for All

Climate Action Education for All

I joined Take Action Global (TAG) two years ago to help the team support its rapidly growing global community of educators and students taking climate action. During this time, the community has doubled to 5 million participants from 172 countries. Young people worldwide are witnessing climate change and want to take action. Governments worldwide are beginning to make policies to support them, yet research shows that many students, particularly girls and those displaced, lack access to climate education programs. Preparing educators to teach climate change is a major challenge. UNESCO found that, “while 95% of surveyed primary and secondary teachers felt that teaching climate change is important, less than 30% expressed a readiness to teach it.”

TAG's research with Shift Sustainability and Earthday.org showed a related result: 71% of educators wanted to see more promotion of climate education on a national level, but only 5% believed that support from their government was currently effective.

TAG fills this gap. By providing teachers with resources and community-centered learning experiences, TAG's prepare educators to engage their students in taking collective action.

I am inspired by and grateful for the leadership of the teachers who we serve. I am privileged, as part of my contribution to this effort as an Advisory Board member, to request financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, NGOs, and government agencies to help TAG in expanding its programs and partnerships:

With appreciation,

Dave
