Clients Have Changed How They Engage But Have YOU Stepped Up?

As consumers, we’ve learned to say “no,” and we’re pretty good at it.
After all, we live in a world where we’re constantly navigating endless ads and sales tactics that follow us wherever we go.
Whether we’re saying “no” to a cold caller, scrolling past endless advertisements without batting an eyelash, or simply pressing decline to a cold call and blocking their number for extra measure, we’ve got the process of avoiding sales down to a science.
So, what does this mean to entrepreneurs like us who need new clients regularly?
It means we have to adapt or die.
Yes, I realize that’s a little extreme…
But some of us need that extra kick in the rear to understand that prospective client engagement has CHANGED!
If we want to keep our businesses afloat, we’ve got to learn how to better engage with our prospects.
Big Hint: It begins with building a CONNECTION.
Building relationships is the only way to survive in today’s marketplace, where the average person wants to be more than just a sale.
Here are a few tips to better build a connection with your new prospective clients:
#1 - Foster Friend-ly Conversations
When reaching out to a new prospective client, your goal should always be to start a conversation. It should NEVER be to sell them your service or product.
Remember that you only have one chance to make a great first impression.
So ask yourself, what would you say when starting out a new conversation with one of your good friends you haven’t seen in a while? Now apply that “friendly” approach to your conversations to help build a rapport and connection.
#2 - Invest In Building A Relationship
Building a relationship with your contacts is necessary if you want to do business with them. And this means you’ll need to give as much as you get from the relationship.
Take time to get to know your potential client BEFORE you reach out to them. Find out what they like and what interests them.
Then find a way to build an authentic connection with them that results in a true win-win for both of you.
#3 Follow-up, Follow-up, Follow-up
Following up is the key to success! Most entrepreneurs give up far too quickly when following up with their prospective clients.
Statistics show that it takes at minimum 8 touchpoints to close a sale!
Put a stringent follow-up plan in place, and stick to it. Which leads me to #4…
#4 - Get Used To “No”
Nobody likes rejection. But, it’s the fear of rejection that kills business owners.
Resistance is a natural part of the sales process. Face it, accept it, and don’t give up!
Not all resistance is a “no.” Sometimes it’s a “maybe” or a “not yet.”
In these cases, continue following up with your prospective client because you never know when the timing of your message will be “just right.”
#5 - Believe In What You’re Selling & Have Fun!
You can sell anything if you believe in what you’re selling. And you’ll sell nothing if you don’t.
Pro Tip: Write down your “why” for what you do and what you love about what you do. Keep that in a visible place as a reminder on your most challenging days.
More importantly, have fun doing what you do!
Entrepreneurs who have fun and love what they do are like magnets. They attract new business because they’re believable!
