Client Happy & Outsourcers Happy
The problem.
An Outsourcer had an unhappy client.
The Client was threatening to leave if a month end report didn't complete sooner.
The Outsourcer wanted to make the Client happy, but didn't want to reduce the monthly bill.
The Client was running an IMS data base with 19,000,000 customers and every month end a 36 program batch process ran for 15 days. The client needed the output to post their monthly, quarterly and year-end General Ledger reports and 15 days run time was just way to long. The Outsourcer's solution was to add another engine and charge the Client.
We ran our analysis tools and identified what was causing the long batch run time.
We used our IMS analysis tool, our Program analysis tool, and our File contention tool. We have 20 tools we can use if need be.
We gave the improvements to the client who implemented and tested the improvements and moved them to production.
The following month end the 36 batch jobs ran in 14 hours saving 14 days and 10 hours. The Client was delighted.
There was no change in the CPU so the Outsourcer was delighted because the client was happy and an initiator was freed up for 14 days and 10 hours so the Outsourcer could now use it for other billable clients.
