Clickbait: What purpose does it serve?

There are many postings on LinkedIn that are nothing more than clickbait. Meaning they serve no purpose other than for you to click on them and drive up the number of views for the person who posted them. This one is no different.
LinkedIn somehow uses this information to rank or weight the postings of each user, so the more views a user gets, the more impressions ALL of their postings receive. So if you will stop clicking on the puzzles, scantily clad women, promises of "click here to see some special effect", etc., most of it will go away because the impression ranking of the user who posted it will fall. Thanks for clicking and raising my impression ranking!
