Clever (celestial) things
I saw this meme recently that read, “Let's raise children who can name more stars in the sky, than stars on the screen.” If you think that’s an admirable goal then maybe you should get to the Sydney Observatory sooner than later.
The historic Observatory resides in an Italianate style sandstone building located atop the grassy slopes of Observatory Hill adjacent to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built in the mid 19th century it is now heritage listed and part of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences.
You can learn all sorts of fantastic facts from a visit there. For instance our own Milky Way galaxy is estimated to contain some 400 billion stars and extends an incomprehensible 100,000 light years across space.
The night tours are when you’ll get the best views of the moon and stars through the giant telescope. Learn more awesome facts about our galaxy from some very clever minds.
