Cleckheaton Food Bank - Our Chosen Charity for August
Each month, we’ll be making a £1,000 donation to a charitable cause nominated by one of the YFM team.
Ian Waterfield, Investment Partner, discusses his support for Cleckheaton Food Bank
Q????????????What is the Cleckheaton Food Bank?
Set up by Cleckheaton Churches Together, the food bank began its work in March 2020 as part of the community response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It provides food parcels for people living in Kirklees in Cleckheaton and the surrounding area.
Q????????????How have you been involved and why have you chosen to support the charity?
My family first became involved in the food bank during a break in lockdowns when the charity was looking for volunteers to tidy up their stores.?My wife and I and our two children went along for most of a day to help.?We then returned a few months later to help assemble their Easter baskets.?Since then, my wife, Anna, has been helping the other volunteers with fundraising and assisting with the admin side of the food bank.
With the cost of living crisis looming, we believe it’s more important than ever to help people who are struggling during such difficult times. The food bank has recently seen an increase in demand, currently serving over 40 local households every week, and they expect this to rise over the coming months.
?Q????????????What will YFM’s donation be used for?
While the food bank does very well for food donations, and local stores are really generous in gifting excess food, there are still quite a lot of basics, including fresh produce such as milk and bread, that the food bank has to purchase directly.?So this donation from YFM will be very welcome!
