The following way of asking for referrals guarantees a nearly 100 % success rate.
"Thank you for agreeing to work with us" — we are looking forward to it. Once we’ve delivered the results you’re expecting and you are happy with our work, we’d like to ask for a small favour...
We’d like to ask you to think of people you know who might also benefit from using our services who you might refer us to.

“Also, once we fully understand your business and the value you deliver, we can then refer you to our large network - and ours is huge.”
You’re requesting permission to ask later when your work is completed and you’re at your “post-project feedback” session. Doing it early gives clients enough time to think about referring you to others. You also provide yourself with useful feedback to reflect on your performance and to improve your image.
After the feedback meeting, you can follow up with several questions like “How do you think we’re different from others?” or “Do you think we can help other businesses succeed?”. Use questions that give you a name when answered, for example: “Who have you discussed our work with?”, or “Do you know anyone who would consider...?”
Don’t just ask for a name. Ask your clients or Referral Partners to contact their connection.
A referral only works when the referrer takes the action needed to bring you and the contact together. Is it worth all the effort? Absolutely. It’s not much of an effort if you remember to ask upfront.
