THE CLEAR WHITE LIGHT OF PURPOSE
From a painting by Clive inspired by a January trip to Burnsall in the YorkshireDales

THE CLEAR WHITE LIGHT OF PURPOSE

The icy talons of winter melt slowly

The wind howls

And light is scarce

Just a hint of brightness

Through the thickening cloud

On this way too short a day

But isn’t that always the way

?

Amidst tragedy and despair

There is always hope

Always a crack to let the light in

A star to follow

An end to the tunnel

A guiding light

Starting faint and

Growing bright

?

Always a choice

A light to follow or avoid

A call to hear or ignore

An easy path or?the?path

Always a choice

An easy life or our best life

?

Wallow in the darkness

Or thrive in the light

Not really any choice

?

How strange it is

That in silence we hear the call

And in darkness we see it all

?

By way of introduction

Having just received copies of my latest book “Leading Beyond Sustainability – six aspirations for a brighter future”, its time for another project.? LBS was the first of my business books that featured any of my poetry and I have been encouraged by readers to do more.? Also, in the last twenty years of so, my writing has somewhat displaced my art.

So, for 2025, my commitment is to explore a subject dear to my heart, “The Clear White Light of Purpose”.? It is an attempt to get right under the skin of the subject I’ve dedicated the last quarter of a century to – purpose, how it arises, how we sense it, how we influence it, become guided by it and how we join others in it.

I have discovered that, explaining how these concepts work may be helpful – but it is so easy in narrative to miss the depth and magic of the subject.

Art and poetry have the power to take us places we might not otherwise go.? I hope you’ll join me on the journey and let me know what you experience along the way.

At least once a month I’ll write a poem and paint a picture.? I might also offer some reflective notes.? But most of all I value your reflections. ?At the end of the year, I might convert some or all the content into a book.? Perhaps with some of your comments too.

For more of my work and books including some that are just poetry visit my new website.
