No Clear Solution To Malaysia's Racial Bias

I recently saw a post by my good friend, Amos Samuel, that is commenting on the racial biases here in Malaysia in regards to hiring and rentals, tying into the BMF movement.

It is a really crappy situation to be in, where everyone loses. Landlords and companies are missing out on a huge market, racial minorities are left homeless and/or jobless. Worst of all, these are situations that are difficult to fix, even with governmental policies.

The most forward solution would be to fix our education system, outfit citizens with the proper skills and add value to our workforce, reducing the overall income divide, empowering the middle class.

But these are solutions that will take decades to show effect, IF solutions are implemented in the first place, which in current Malaysian politics, is really hard to implement.

The better question to ask, is what can we do right now, as normal citizens to minimise the damage?

Simply put, be the change that you want to see. Stop victimising yourself, and be part of the solution.

Are you an Indian that finds it hard to get a job in a firm that values Mandarin speakers? Take a Mandarin course. Climb up the ranks and be the HR officer that sees beyond skin colour and identify true talent in the marketplace.

Are you an Arab or African that find it hard to secure a place you call home here in Malaysia? Well, work your way up, strike deals with landlords or buy a house of your own, and offer it to the people who truly need a roof over their heads.

Because from the way I see it, we are either part of the solution, or part of the problem. Which side do you want to stay on?

If you have a problem, solve the problem;

If there are no problems, don't be the one causing it.

Don't be at the sidelines, take action, and be part of the conversation.
