Clear Intent: Everyone’s Superpower

Intentions drive strategies, plans, goals, and objectives. It’s the intention that motivates action to achieve outrageous results.

Bill Gates famously envisioned a future where every household would have a computer. In 1977, he said, "A computer on every desk and in every home." This vision has largely come to fruition, with computers becoming an integral part of daily life for millions of people around the world. He had a clear intent for Microsoft. In 1928 Herbert Hoover campaigned on prosperity with a clear intent of "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage," symbolizing the promise of widespread wealth and comfort. John F. Kennedy's wild intent about going to the moon in his speech at Rice University on September 12, 1962. He said, "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard." In every case each of these intents came true in the 20th Century.

As 2024 concludes with a new year on the horizon I have one simple question. What is your intention? Whether you’re a leader in business, government or family what is your intention for outrageous achievement?

Turning Intentions to Reality

  1. Clarify Your Intentions: Be specific about what you want to achieve. Vague intentions are harder to move towards.
  2. Get Invested: Visualize the end point. Picture yourself achieving your intention. Visualization can boost motivation and clarify the steps needed.
  3. Break It Down: Divide your intention into smaller, manageable tasks. This makes it less overwhelming and easier to tackle.
  4. Set a Timeline: Establish deadlines for each task. This creates a sense of urgency and helps you stay on track.
  5. Stay Accountable: Share your intentions with someone who can hold you accountable. Regular check-ins can keep you motivated.
  6. Take Action: Start with small steps. Consistent action, no matter how small, moves you closer to your goal.
  7. Monitor Progress: Regularly review your progress and adjust your plan as needed. Celebrate small wins to stay motivated.
  8. Stay Flexible: Be prepared to adapt your plan if circumstances change. Flexibility ensures you can overcome obstacles.
  9. Seek Support: Don't hesitate to ask for help or advice. Others can provide valuable insights and encouragement.
  10. Reflect and Adjust: Periodically reflect on your journey. Adjust your approach based on what you've learned.

Final Thought

Intent is a superpower that we can all exercise to set a personal path or drive an organization forward. As we enter the second half of this decade take time to establish your intent.
