Clear the clutter: a reflection on physical and financial health

Is it time for you to clear financial clutter so that you can enjoy a (re)new(ed) relationship with your wealth? Currently I am enjoying a (re)new(ed) relationship with my physical health as a result of deliberate efforts to clear my life of toxic behaviors and replace them with healthy ones.?I hope that the following recount of my physical health experiences and their parallels to financial health inspire you to give me a call.?

Avoidance only works so long...

Over the years I tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in each knee and, today, neither knee has a functioning ACL.?Until recently, I adopted a “head in the sand” approach to managing these injuries and related body aches and pains. I tried to exert my influence on other health circumstances and I immersed myself in my career.?

In the same way, many people adopt a “head in the sand” approach to managing their wealth.?Often, they don't pay attention to their wealth until there is a life change and/or they work with brokers just because they were recommended by family.? Rather than understand what fiduciary financial professionals best meet their needs or disrupt family dynamics, many people accept the recommended broker relationships as “good enough” and focus their limited time and energy on other life priorities.

Life changes offer you choices...

In 2021, after eating too much comfort food, imbibing in too many virtual happy hours, and refraining from initiating enough exercise, my body hurt and my clothes didn’t fit.?So as a first step in trying to feel better I participated in my first nutritional detox program.?I began working with an Integrative Medicine physician who was competent and compassionate.?We discussed the healthy, active woman I aspired to be, and we began a process of replacing unhealthy eating habits with healthy ones. ?

Similarly, life changes like a new job, the death of a loved one, and retirement inspire people to question their current approach to managing their wealth.?Many of these individuals want to focus on things in their busy lives other than their finances.?This is why I enjoy offering all prospective clients a complimentary consultation.?We can get to know each other and discuss both their current approach to managing their wealth as well as how life is changing.?And I can share with them how my team’s services can positively influence their future.

Positive choices open up new opportunities...

Pivoting back to my own story, as my energy levels improved through better eating, I was able to accept the challenge of a dear friend to start a new exercise routine.?Today, after more than a year of working out regularly with people who have held me accountable to meeting my exercise goals, I now am moving with less pain and more strength than I have since 1999.?To complement the rigorous workouts, I now am re-introducing essential related physical self-care activities like sleep, stretching, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices.?

Likewise, over time as clients and I continuously triage their financial pain points, implement courses of care that set them up to achieve their wealth management goals, and engage in regular conversations around their progress, clients experience deeper financial confidence.?Over the years, clients' needs change. We may start working together as they prepare for retirement. Then we may navigate the loss of a spouse and the strategic transfer of wealth to loved ones and organizations.?Throughout these life changes clients experience a healthy and dynamic relationship with their finances; they count on my team and me to understand what is important to them and provide ongoing advice that they can use as they navigate life's inevitable uncertainties.?
