Cleanup GPT Could Soon be a Job

Last week, I had calls with 3 marketing heads.

It seems they all faced similar issues although they were in different industries.

Their sites were suddenly losing traffic, as if it had dropped off a cliff.

What happened?

Well, the good thing is nothing happens online without a reason and often the reason is captured by analytics and search console.

A few hours of digging search console revealed the villain was they had bought backlinks from notorious link farms.

I was surprised.

These were reputed brands and there was no way the would have gone to a link farm to purchase links.

So how did it happen?

On more investigation we discovered they have hired a few interns to look after their site and the interns had used ChatGPT to find ways to get backlinks.

As the info on ChatGPT is from 2021, it had recommended backlink techniques from the past which was no longer relevant in 2023.

Although this meant a lot of cleanup for the sites, I sat down and thought to myself.

If brands are implementing what ChatGPT suggests and they get into trouble, an entire industry could come up to cleanup all the mess.

Probably it would be called Cleanup GPT.
