Cleaning up after hurricanes and spreading hope in communities
Welcome back as we celebrate one year of Hope Makes It Happen!? ??? While you tune in to the Paris Olympics this week, consider ways you can promote unity and compassion in your corner of the world. You don’t have to be a gold medalist to do something great — we can all work to add value in our workplaces, organizations, and families.
In this week’s edition, we’re covering Convoy of Hope’s partnership with Georgia-Pacific and caring for communities, from Sacramento to Moldova and beyond.
Partnership and paper towels
What does it take to clean up after a hurricane? Our partners at Georgia-Pacific have made sure Convoy has the supplies we need to help survivors recover.
Food and water are crucial after a disaster, but there’s also a need for cleaning supplies —? Items like floor cleaner, bleach, disinfectant, gloves, and trash bags are often a part of the response loads we send out for distribution.?
Through a decade-long partnership, Georgia-Pacific has been there to provide Brawny paper towels at disaster sites. They recently donated around 21 truckloads of paper towels to be prepared at our World Distribution Center for the next response. We were able to use them in our busy season this spring, reaching 84,000 people in six separate disasters.

Spreading hope in the U.S.
Each community needs help and hope in different ways. What may work for an urban neighborhood may not be applicable for a rural community; services that are helpful in one place may be harmful in another.
Convoy’s various initiatives — including Community Events, Rural Initiatives, Field Teams, and Community Engagement Distributions — allow our team members to gear strategy and education toward the appropriate setting. This lets Convoy bring hope to places that need it the most.

A healthy future
Stefan is only 10 years old, living in a small village in Moldova. His mother abandoned their family and his father suffers from alcohol addiction, causing dysfunction and instability in the home.
However, his grandparents opened their doors to him, and shortly after, he was invited to join Convoy’s Children’s Feeding program.
The outcomes and the abundance of hope are evident in Stefan’s life, as he feels safe and supported for the first time. Read more about how Stefan is paving the way for a healthier life for himself and his family.
