Cleaning and Serving Food: Not good hygiene - 'They said I'd be cleaning toilets so I quit'.
Read this and similar news stories regarding Tesco and thought: Is is hygienic and practical to have staff cleaning toilets one minute and then serving food products the next hygienic and safe. My understanding is that these staff will have to wash and change clothes in between each activity. Is this even possible in most stores and will managers sanction this or are they looking at employees moving from one task to the other without and regards to health and safety. Food Preparation laws may not come into effect but I am guessing it would be negligent to let employees do both tasks without any consideration for the health and well-being for all.
That said, I can see why these companies and organisation will want to do this and not just to maintain trade and sales. It appears that they may be thinking that they need to maintain health sanitary facilities, which is good and essential, but also to try to maintain employment for current employees rather than making them redundant. Difficult for businesses but a bit of logical and legal thought would not go amiss.
