There is a lot to be said for a clean desk but even more can be said about a desk that has not been cleaned.
I am not an anthropologist but I am often intrigued at what one finds when you go through an old desk.
WHY YOU ARE CLEANING A DESK
- you may be doing it on your own or because someone encouraged you to do so.
- you may be going through your own desk for its regular or not so regular cleaning.
- you may have a new job and given someone else's desk.
- you may have gotten a promotion or transfer to a new area.
- you may be leaving due to planned or unplanned retirement.
WHAT STORIES ARE TOLD BY THE THINGS WE FIND
- There is always a mix of standard issue and what we choose.
- It's good to be prepared and have something close by just in case.
- Somethings are for us and some are to share.
- Its hard to give up on things even if they are not working.
- Things can make us look better or feel better.
