Reams Report
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The CRES team had a blast networking, hosting events and celebrating the growth of the conservative climate movement at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. We joined Members of Congress, energy leaders and delegates from across the country to highlight the importance of clean, affordable, reliable American-made energy and advocate for an all-of-the-above energy approach that reduces global emissions.
Over the past decade, and particularly in my eight years with CRES, we've seen a significant evolution in how Republicans approach climate change and clean energy. There's a growing recognition among Republicans that supporting clean energy and acknowledging climate change doesn't negate their conservative credentials.
The platform adopted by Republicans on night one of the Convention emphasizes unleashing American energy to achieve energy dominance by reducing unnecessary regulation and permitting red tape. It aims to create jobs, decrease reliance on foreign competitors and bolster American manufacturing — which, as we know, will all result in lower global emissions.
Affordable, reliable American-made energy was a central theme among the many Convention speakers. While we heard the familiar chant of “drill, baby, drill,” we also heard about American energy dominance through innovation and bringing supply chains back home. For those of us immersed in energy policy, we know that part of energy policy is environmental policy, and U.S. energy production is among the cleanest in the world.
I left Milwaukee feeling invigorated for the future and hopeful that a Republican administration will give American energy producers the tools they need to lower energy costs and ensure families and businesses have access to clean and reliable energy. As North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum stated in his Convention address, “We should be selling energy to our allies — not buying it from our adversaries.” In doing so, we will bolster American energy leadership and leave our planet better than we found it.
Sincerely,
Heather Reams
CRES President
WHAT CRES IS HEARING
“The Energy and Commerce Committee has a rich history of advancing major bipartisan solutions, and I’m extremely proud that our years of hard work to strengthen American nuclear energy have paid off with this significant legislation that will improve energy reliability and reduce costs for American families and businesses, [...] This is a major victory for the American people and will help cement U.S. energy leadership for decades to come. I want to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly to get this legislation signed into law, especially the Chair of our Energy Subcommittee and bill author, Rep. Jeff Duncan.” – House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) in a statement celebrating the ADVANCE Act being signed into law.
“To achieve this, we must pursue not just American energy independence, but American energy dominance on the world stage. We need an all-of-the-above energy approach with an emphasis on baseload sources like clean nuclear power and reliable natural gas, supplemented by additional sources like wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, and other innovative technologies. [...] We must develop American resources to fuel our country and compete with China in the 21st Century.” – Danielle Butcher Franz, Chris Barnard and Stephen Perkins in an op-ed published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.?
WHAT CRES IS SAYING
About the PROVE IT Act…
“The United States has led the world in reducing emissions, and American producers and manufacturers are among the cleanest, most efficient in the world. The PROVE IT Act will ensure we have verifiable government data to prove America’s carbon advantage and an avenue to provide transparency on the emissions intensity of foreign competitors. As trading partners around world begin to implement climate trade policies, it is vital the United States have official data to defend our strategic interests, [...] CRES extends its gratitude to Rep. Curtis (R-Utah) and Rep. Peters (D-Calif.) for their leadership in introducing this bipartisan legislation in the House.”? – CRES President Heather Reams in a statement supporting introduction of the PROVE IT Act in the U.S. House.?
About the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024...

“Clean energy development in the United States has been crippled by burdensome federal permitting processes, onerous regulations and serial litigation from extreme interest groups, [...] CRES applauds Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) for continuing to pound the drum on the importance of permitting reform and for introducing the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024. This bipartisan package promises to address many of the bottlenecks U.S. energy developers are facing as they work to build, deploy and expand clean, affordable, reliable American-made energy across the country.” —?CRES President Heather Reams in a statement about the?Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024.
WHAT CRES IS DOING
The CRES team partnered with the Conservative Climate Foundation (CCF), American Conservation Coalition and ClearPath to host a Conservative Climate Reception at the Republican National Convention (RNC). The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders and advocates, including Conservative Climate Caucus Founder Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah), Conservative Climate Caucus Chair Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) and RNC Host Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.??
CRES joined energy industry leaders to host the American Energy CARES (Clean, Affordable, Reliable Energy Sources) After Hours Convention Celebration at the Discovery World in Milwaukee! We were joined by several Members of the Conservative Climate Caucus, delegates from across country and friends who believe in working to increase American-made energy to reduce global emissions. It was an 80’s party to remember, complete with a fireworks show and live music from The Spazmatics!?
CRES Forum recently participated in a tour of Constellation’s Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Facility hosted by the Conservative Climate Foundation. CRES Forum Vice President of External Relations Jaime Werner joined over 20 congressional staff and industry stakeholders to explore the power plant just miles from Washington, D.C., and learn how they are working to provide reliable, carbon-free energy to local communities.
