We all know that the air quality in our inner cities isn’t great. Clean Air and Air pollution is often mentioned in the news and becoming an ever more talked about problem. But what about our indoor air quality? Are businesses, schools and public buildings looking to achieve higher levels of air quality for all that work study or visit their?
We have all seen these signs in and around our offices, schools, hospitals & public buildings. But are having these signs and hand sanitizes enough to prevent the spread of germs?
Evidence demonstrating the relationship between Indoor air quality (IAQ) and the performance and productivity has become increasingly robust. Studies demonstrate that improved Indoor air quality (IAQ) can increase productivity and improves performance on mental tasks, such as concentration and memory, for both adults and children. So having cleaner air indoors is just as important as outdoors. We also know that the spread of germs in an office can also cause lots of health problems ultimately meaning plenty of sick days logged.
Research has found concentrations of VOCs in indoor air commonly to be 2 to 5 times greater than in outdoor air and sometimes far greater. During certain activities indoor levels of VOCs may reach 1,000 times that of the outside air.
Indoor air quality is affected by “Volatile organic compounds” or VOC’s. The name given to a substance that contains carbon and that evaporates at room temperature. Some examples of VOCs include benzene, methylene chloride, hexane, toluene, trichloroethane, styrene, heptane, and perchloroethylene.
VOCs are widely used in household and commercial products. Some cleansers, disinfectants, waxes, glues, cosmetics, dry cleaning products, paints, varnishes and preservatives include VOCs. Gasoline, kerosene and other fuels also contain VOCs. VOCs are also found in cigarette smoke and pesticides. A number of building and household materials may be sources of VOCs. New carpeting, backing, and adhesives; draperies; wood products that use certain glues, finishes, and waxes in the manufacturing process; and vinyl type flooring and wall coverings may all release VOCs into the air.
The ability of VOCs to cause health effects varies greatly. As with other chemicals, the effects of VOC exposure depends on several factors including the type of VOC, the amount of VOC and the length of time a person is exposed. Exposure to elevated levels of VOCs may cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. Headaches, nausea, and nerve problems can also occur. Some people do not appear to have any kind of reaction to fairly “low” amounts of VOCs, while other people are fairly sensitive.
It is not likely that most of us can live, work, or go to school in an indoor setting that is completely free of VOCs. However, steps can be taken to reduce exposure to VOCs and the spread of germs.
Titan Effect is the next generation of air purification technology. Our product can reduce more than 85% of the harmful gases in the air. For example Nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, benzene, VOCs etc. it will eliminate these quickly and effectively.
Titan Effect products will also eliminate unpleasant odours and pollutants sustainable in the air. Diseases such as “sick building Syndrome and so-called building related illnesses which often lead to massive health problems and associated high costs.
Titan Effect can be used for example to remove sweat and body odour, urine smells in toilets, pet odours, and will also decompose germs and viruses such as ARAS and H1N1
