It’s no question that COVID-19 has taken its toll on all of our lives, our businesses, and even in our homes. As we move forward and progress away from this global pandemic, clean air inside the home is becoming a major must-have for recent prospects and homebuyers. As a home builder or developer, are you prioritizing clean air in your homes?

In this article, you’ll learn why you need to develop clean air strategies to incorporate into your future building projects. People spend 90% of their day in their homes and the last thing you need is to have your new homeowners falling ill due to contaminated air. It’s your responsibility to sell healthy homes so you have healthy and happy homeowners.

While many homebuyers are becoming more and more health-conscious due to the recent pandemic, many are still uninformed about the importance of clean air. A tip is to educate them by presenting the facts. Here are some facts to consider about clean air:

  • Indoor air quality is vital to our everyday lives and health
  • Indoor air quality can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air quality.
  • The EPA has ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental dangers.

6 Reasons to Prioritize Clean Air in Homes:

1. It’s a Necessity

Clean air is more than just picking the right HVAC system or choosing a quality add-on at a design center, it’s become an absolute necessity. Clean air in homes is more important than energy saving, more important than custom countertops, and more important than cost.

This time around it’s COVID-19 taking its toll, but what about in the future? Clean air in homes is an important necessity because it not only protects your valued homeowners but also protects their children and aging parents from harmful contaminants and viruses.

2. It’s Your Responsibility

I touched on this earlier in this article, but it’s true and important to reiterate. Clean air in homes is the home builder or developer’s responsibility. Many home builders and developers have felt that if they have the ability to take action on fixing the air quality in homes, then they should.

Its currently an industry trend to take responsibility to educate homeowners as to the importance of breathing healthy air. Many prospects have a series of items to check off during their house-hunting search such as square footage, the number of bedrooms, etc. and more often than not, clean air is not at the top of the list. Rather than “selling clean air”, educate your buyers on its importance.

3. Just Because We Can’t See it, Doesn’t Mean It’s Not There

As a home builder or developer, you’ve seen your fair share of home improvement projects. You’ve seen fixer-uppers turn into dream homes. It’s easy to spot the imperfections of a home but it’s not so easy to determine the quality of the air.

Just because we can’t see the quality of air, doesn’t mean it’s not critical. It’s a silent killer that can impact young children and families without even realizing it. If the air in a home is sick, so is the home. If the home is sick, its occupants may be as well. Essentially, you need to fix the problem with a healthy air system.

4. Clean Air Will Appeal to More Homebuyers

When you make a serious effort to incorporate clean air in your homes, you will appeal to more homebuyers. The psychological effects of COVID-19 are large and worldwide, and it has made many people become germophobic. Everyone is looking to home builders and developers to provide a healthy home in today’s environment.

In fact, the CDC says that one of the most important things you can do right now to have healthier air is to use a room humidifier. Rather than just informing your homeowners to get a humidifier, offer upgrades to their current ventilation system to show them you care about the quality of air in the homes you build.

5. All Industries are Contributing

While experts say that the home building industry will lead the way out of an economic recession from COVID-19, many other industries are contributing. Below are a series of efforts performed by all different types of industries to help the population recover during these uncertain times:

  • Ventec is working with General Motors to produce 30,000 ventilators.
  • My Pillow is producing thousands of masks to donate to hospitals.
  • Hydrant is donating 6,000 rapid rehydration packs to doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators.
  • Freshly and Nestle is donating $500,000 to Meals on Wheels America to feed the hungry.
  • Chewy and GreaterGood.org partnered up with other nonprofit organizations to donate more than $1.7 million in pet food, healthcare supplies, and other products to animal welfare organizations most severely affected by the virus.

These are just a few examples of the many different types of relief efforts businesses are providing. As a home builder or developer, do your part by ensuring all of your homes have clean, fresh air.

6. Use it for Marketing

Another reason to consider clean air practices is that you can use it for your marketing. Since you already know homebuyers are starting to understand the health benefits of clean air homes, make it easy for them to find your business. There are several ways to promote clean air in homes when it comes to traditional and digital marketing:

  • Film a series of videos to promote on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube that explain the importance of clean air in homes and what your company is doing to protect your buyers.
  • Write a series of blog articles to explain your clean air efforts and also to present the facts regarding its importance.
  • Develop a new page on your website that focuses on clean air and other ways your company is helping to stop the spread of all viruses including COVID-19.
  • Launch a program aimed to educate your prospects about the importance of clean air in the home.
  • Create an email marketing campaign to inform your target audience on ways you’re improving the quality of air in your homes.
  • Offer information about your quality HVAC system and insulation to show you care about clean air.
  • Partner up with your HVAC supplier to collaborate on content to promote your homes.

Remember the goal with clean air in homes as a home builder is to educate the homebuyer on its importance. Once a homebuyer understands why clean air is so important to their health, they will be eager to include it on their checklist for their new home.
