Claude AI vs ChatGPT: A Comparative Analysis

Claude AI vs ChatGPT: A Comparative Analysis

ChatGPT is probably the most widely known or used large language model (LLM)-based chatbot today. Since it came to life in 2022, it quickly captured many hearts to become the fastest-growing app ever. The March 2024 data shows that ChatGPT has approximately 180.5 million users.?

After GPT- 3.5, we now have an improvised model GPT-4, released in 2023, which is the benchmark for judging all other LLMs.

You may have come across another LLM recently, Anthropic's Claude, with Claude 1, Claude 2, and Claude-Instant models. Anthropic also released the Claude 3 series, including Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Haiku in early March this year.

Let’s spot the difference between the two chatbot products.

Architecture and Functionality

Both these chatbot products are designed with different capabilities and criteria, while Open AI’s ChatGPT, considering GPT-4 architecture, pays more heed to versatility and performance.

Unlike ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude zeroes in on ethical AI development to prioritize safety and alignment with human values. It’s got natural, text-based conversations, and competency in editing, summarization, decision-making, Q&A, code-writing, and more. Plus, Claude can read about 75,000 words at a time, close to a short book, and is regularly trained on up-to-date information.

OpenAI keeps upgrading its existing models for attaining high comprehension levels and contextual understanding, by training them on various datasets. From creative writing to technical support, ChatGPT generates human-like text and fits many applications.

Having said that, ChatGPT is more versatile than Claude, with features like internet access and image generation. But Claude provides cheaper API access and is able to process more data in one go.

Performance and User Experience: Chat GPT Vs. Claude

Claude and ChatGPT both are good at language comprehension and code generation. However, Claude often gives more reserved responses due to Anthropic's safety-centric ethos, which may be beneficial but??limits creativity and can frustrate users. At the same time, OpenAI retrains ChatGPT on user interactions by default, though users can opt out.

OpenAI has been more actively expanding ChatGPT's capabilities with features like plugins and web browsing, adding multimodality, internet access, and GPT’s customized versions of the chatbot for specific tasks. You can create GPTs using a no-code interface and share them on the OpenAI GPT marketplace.

Anthropic's newly released prompt library with Claude 3 produces optimized prompts akin to GPT-style persona cards. LLM users may find it useful, but experienced prompt engineers might find it less helpful. There’s a usability limitation as you’ve to manually reenter prompts or use the API, unlike selecting a preconfigured GPT in ChatGPT.

Conclusion

Overall, both Claude AI and ChatGPT are advanced chatbots, but there are major differences in transparency, safety measures, and additional features of the two.

Claude Pro is short of many new features ChatGPT+ offers, like voice chat, data analysis, image creation, web browsing, and image understanding.

ChatGPT and Gemini suffer from translating btwn less content available languages, like Kurdish. On the other hand, Claude 3.5 Sonnet is perfect in Kurdish (Kurmanji). Its capabilities with such less content available languages amazed me. Thank you Antrophic ??

After weeks of testing, my company moved to Claude for basically everything. In terms of writing, Claude Sonnet gave us much better results and it's somehow "more human" than GPT 4 (we write in croatian and english at the moment). Other models we tried were so-so.
