Classification of Titanium Anode
The full name of titanium anode is titanium-based metal oxide coated electrode (MMO), also known as insoluble anode. According to the different catalytic coating on its surface, it has oxygen precipitation function and chlorine precipitation function respectively. The general electrode material should have good electrical conductivity, small change of pole distance, strong corrosion resistance, good mechanical strength and processing performance, long life, low cost, and good electrocatalytic performance for electrode reaction. Titanium anode is widely used, it can be used in the manufacture of electrochemical equipment such as batteries, electrolysis tanks, electrolysis of water, etc. It can also be used in industrial production processes such as seawater desalination, wastewater treatment and metal extraction.
Below are the introduction and application areas of different types of titanium anodes:
1. Ruthenium titanium anode plates:
- Advantages: high current efficiency (chlorine or oxygen precipitation environment), excellent corrosion resistance, long service life of electrodes, electrode specifications and dimensions can be designed according to users' needs, electrode substrate can be reused for many times, and no contamination to the medium.
- Application areas: chlor-alkali industry, sodium hypochlorite industry, sewage treatment industry, fresh water disinfection.
2. Ruthenium-iridium-titanium anode plate:
- Advantages: stable anode dimensions, no change in electrode spacing during electrolysis, which ensures that electrolysis operations are carried out with stable tank voltage. Low working voltage, low power consumption, can reduce consumption by about 20%. Titanium anode has a long working life, and the metal anode is resistant to chlorine and alkali corrosion in the diaphragm method of chlorine production industry. It can overcome the problem of graphite anode and lead anode dissolution, avoid the pollution of electrolyte and cathode products, and improve the quality of products. Current density can be increased. Strong corrosion resistance, can work in many corrosive, special requirements of the electrolytic medium. It can avoid the short circuit problem after lead anode deformation, so as to improve the current efficiency. The base titanium material can be used repeatedly.
- Application areas: chlor-alkali industry, chlorine dioxide production, chlorate industry, hypochlorite industry, perchlorate production, hospital sewage treatment, persulfate production, food utensil disinfection, ionized water production.

3. Tantalum-iridium-titanium anode plates:
- Advantages: Electrolytic extraction of metals in sulfuric acid solution, oxygen is precipitated on the anode, and the selection of the appropriate anode material to be used is a very important issue. The use of tantalum-iridium system coated titanium electrodes has a low oxygen overpotential and is not subject to corrosion by the electrolyte. The iridium oxide coating shows excellent electrolytic durability. The initial anode potential is 1.51V, after 6000 hours, it is 1.64V, and the weight loss of the coating is 0mg/M2. When using lead-based alloy electrodes (containing Sb6%-15%, or Ag1%) in electrolytic production, the lead anode will be dissolved, which consumes anode materials and affects the service life of the anode, and the lead dissolved in the solution will be precipitated on the cathode so that the lead impurities in the metal are higher, which lowers the The quality of the product is lowered. Ruthenium coating will be seriously damaged under this condition, so it is not suitable for use. The initial anode potential is 1.48V, after 1000 hours, it rises to 2.0V and the anode is passivated.
- Application areas: electrolytic production of non-ferrous metals, disinfection of food utensils, production of electrolytic silver catalyst, waste water treatment of dyeing and finishing in woolen factories, electrolytic manufacturing of copper foil, galvanization of steel plates, chromium plating, recovery of mercury by electrolytic oxidation, rhodium plating, palladium plating, gold plating, water electrolysis, molten salt electrolysis, battery production, cathodic protection, production of ionized water, and printed circuit boards.
4. Iridium-tin-titanium anode plates:
- Advantages: high current efficiency (in chlorine precipitation or oxygen precipitation environment), excellent corrosion resistance, long service life of electrodes, specification size of electrodes can be designed according to users' needs, electrode substrate can be reused for many times, and there is no contamination to the medium.
- Application areas: chlor-alkali industry, aluminum foil, copper foil industry, industrial wastewater treatment, ionized water production, electrochemical treatment of organic matter and organic electrochemical synthesis, electrolytic purification and treatment of gases, desalination of seawater, oxidant regeneration cycle.
Different types of titanium anodes have different characteristics and scope of application, and the selection of suitable titanium anodes can improve the efficiency and quality of electrochemical reaction.
