Classification of Private Security Industry

The Security industry can be broadly classified into two categories:-

• Security Service Segment includes the private manned security services. This segment dominates the security industry in India. It has been into existence since the early 1960s and is country's largest corporate tax payer. It is touted to grow at 40 percent every year. Manned guarding implies providing guarding services in client premises against unauthorized access or occupation, and guarding property against destruction and damage. Relevant activities within manned guarding include: Surveillance and protection of facilities, Security checks, Crowd Management, Background Verification, Transport security, close monitoring and protection and Event Security.
• Security Systems Segment covers security provided through electronic devices. It includes devices such as alarms, system integrators, CCTVs, intrusion detectors, door intercoms and access controls. Majority of the technological expertise is brought in through partnership with multi-national companies. The state of the art control and command center offering remote surveillance is also a fast emerging segment.
