A Classic New Scottish Links – Dumbarnie
Located just a 20 minute drive south of St Andrews on the Fife coast Dumbarnie Links is certain to be recognised in short order as one of the very best golf courses in Scotland.
I was lucky to play the course recently with my son Sam in glorious sunshine and what a fantastic golfing experience we had.
This is golf at its absolute best with wonderful views across the Firth of Forth towards Muirfield, Gullane and to Edinburgh.
The course was designed by Clive Clark the former Walker and Ryder Cup player and what a wonderful job he has made of the layout. As a number of holes are built on slightly higher ground this means the golfer has superb views across the firth and this provides a spectacular backdrop to each shot.
The short holes are wonderful and they range in length to make life interesting and there are also a couple of short par 4s which depending on the wind direction may tempt a “go for the green” with the tee shot.
Black, Blue and Red tees provide a real challenge for all levels of golfer but it was fun on a number of holes to look back to see a tee set into a dune adding as much as 80 yards to the hole and indeed the tiger tee on the 17th adds well over 100 yards.
In years to come Dumbarnie Links would be a wonderful venue for the Scottish Open as the tournament tees would stretch to course to over 7600 yards.
Dumbarnie Links has just added to the list of world class golf courses we have in Scotland and there is no doubt in my mind it will in no time at all be on every visiting golfers’ MUST PLAY list.

4 年Golf has been slowly dying for a while. An expensive elitist pastime will now have to find ways to attract and involve new generations and for one thing make the game playable in an hour or so.
An old fella with loads of gas left in the tank. Three brilliant grandchildren, daily yoga and meditation, regular gym and golf help keep me that way. No plans to stop or give up.
4 年Sounds superb. Pity that many old, traditional Scottish courses, already in trouble, will not survive.
